Camella has designed an Aqua Yoga hatha practice that can be experienced for the able-bodied and not quite so able-bodied. She published a leading edge book called, "Aqua Kriya Yoga" that is encouraging more people to pick up the practice of becoming more comfortable and stable in their body.
As above, so below. Our planet is made up of more than 70% water, the same as the human body. We cannot separate ourselves from this medium and if we open our minds, we can even conceive of taking our asana practice into the water; or using it as a starting point to begin a hatha practice, especially if the body has some bias.
In the right environment, with the right attitude, it is possible to experience a sense of balanced awareness in the water. Most of the poses are done with the student close to the pool edge to insure proper joint articulation and for the teacher to have the best vantage point to guide the student. It is quite suitable for pre-natal women, post natal, people with arthritis and obesity, or any body limitations. Everyone who enjoys yoga and being in a pool can be mindful while practicing yoga in the water.
Yoga Teachers:
As more and more teachers are becoming certified in yoga asana, it is a great idea to become certified to teach in the water in order to reach students where they need to be , at the same time becoming a better teacher.
Teachers can differentiate themselves from the general population of teachers who are only offering mat instruction.
